Viewing 2_Laura
A stereo work for headphones whilst walking in Loughborough, UK.
Comissioned by Loughborough Universtity for Radar, Sound_Walks.
Curated by Nick Slater
Laura has lived in neighbouring Sileby all her life, coming to Loughborough daily to visit her grandfather, go to college and work. She met Kaffe on a park bench on a hot summer’s day and shared and showed her some insider Loughborough stories. Together they made one journey to one spot, around which Viewing 2_Laura has been structured.
Inspired by the multiple silent cartographies that inhabit our minds as we navigate our daily lives, Kaffe is developing the compositional strategy used to make Viewing 1, mapping street geography against sonic events, some raw, some processed, stacking the sounds in layers of folders to play and knock each other out due to simple probablitites.
Viewing 2_Laura is the result, a sonic realisation of a town in middle England through the daily life of a local teenager.
This developing technique for composition is a result of the music for bodies instrument lab, made in collaboration with and programmed by David Muth.
