Miniatora
Eight channel composition for Miniatora, a sixty minute dance piece made through the collaboration of choreographer Claire Russ, and architect Christophe Egret. For 6 members of CandoCo Dance company to perform beneath portable inflatable structures Jack and Jill.
Premiéred at the Docklands Dance Festival, Canary Wharf, then Trafalgar Square, London. August 2006.
The structure was superb. The premiére was the first time we had seen it fully inflated as rehearsal spaces had been too low ceilinged to accomodate its 12m height. Handles up the structure gave the impression that dancers could run all over it, but their weight in fact collapsed it. More strengthening work still needed.
The 8 speakers were installed inside the legs as well as fans to maintain the inflation. Shame on their noise.
Crowds gathered in the hot sun and were intrigued.
One guy to another, ” blimey mate, what did you make of that?” ”
” dunno, but that was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen and that suits me just fine.”
